Emily Braden Quartet

Sat, Apr 22 7:30pm

Big, bad beauty from Boise, Idaho, Emily Braden has the innate ability to win the heart of any audience with her powerhouse vocals and striking stage presence. Winner of New York City’s prestigious “Best of the Best” Jazzmobile Vocal Competition, her signature sound is an effortless
blend of jazz and soul.

As a resident of Harlem and a celebrated name on the NYC’s jazz scene for over a decade, Braden has graced the iconic stages of NYC’s Blue Note Jazz Club, Birdland Jazz Club and
Minton’s Playhouse as well as international festival circuits. She could be seen at her monthly residency at the famed 55 Bar in Greenwich Village until its recent shuttering. Braden has twice represented the US arts community abroad with the US Embassy’s Arts Envoy Program.

Her formal studies include a two year vocal jazz program in Gresham, Oregon under the guidance of big band arranger Dave Barduhn and an intensive private mentorship with eminent pianist and vocalist Louise Rose in Victoria, British Columbia. While in Victoria, she received her Bachelors and Masters degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Victoria, graduating with honors.

Braden’s debut album Soul Walk and sophomore album Cannon & Sparrow were written and recorded with producer and musical partner of over 15 years, Misha Piatigorsky. Piatigorsky says, “As a singer, Emily has no boundaries. She gives me goosebumps.” The catalyst
for Cannon & Sparrow was the passing of her father within a week of the 2016 presidential election. Songwriter and lyricist Braden says “This album was a huge part of my healing process. The songs were pieced together from dreams, journals and voice memos over time. What I
thought was a project about personal and collective grief revealed itself to be an offering of joy and resilience.”

Current side projects include “Big Diva Energy,” a collaboration with superstar TV contestants
Sarah Potenza and Katie Kadan of The Voice, and appearances with underground speakeasy
Daddy Rabbit, as featured in NYC TimeOut and the NYTimes.
Her sophomore album Cannon & Sparrow was released March 2023.
