Tiny Pricks Project: Empower and Reclaim Comes To The Foundry

November 7, 2019

West Stockbridge, MA – Diana Weymar’s Tiny Pricks Project is set to come to The Foundry in West Stockbridge this winter season.

The Tiny Pricks exhibit, “Tiny Pricks Project: Empower and Reclaim.” will run at The Foundry from December 7, 2019-January 21, 2020. (Martin Luther King weekend.) During the holiday weekend The Foundry will create a voter registration event around the exhibit.

“On Jan. 8th, 2018 I stitched “I am a very stable genius” into a piece of my grandmother’s abandoned needlework from the 1960s. When I posted it on Instagram, the response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. Assuming he would become more presidential over time, with only the occasional ridiculous tweet, I decided to stitch one Trump quote a week. However, it quickly became a daily practice, as I tried to keep up with the outpouring of “unpresidential” text. Friends asked if I would host workshops so that they could join the project. Tiny Pricks Project has since become the largest textile Trump protest EVER with over 1100 Tiny Pricks and hundreds of participants globally. The series will go strong until Trump is out of office.”

-Diana Weymar

This series holds a creative space in a tumultuous political climate. Tiny Pricks Project counterbalances the impermanence of Twitter and Trump’s statements by using textiles that embody warmth, craft, permanence, civility, and a shared history. The daintiness and strength of each piece stands in stark contrast to his presidency.

Every Tuesday night after the exhibit opens on December 7, The Foundry will host a “Stitch ‘N Bitch” open to the public from 6-9PM. The bar will be open and SoMa Food Truck will be on the premises. The gallery will provide materials for members of the community to create their own embroidered pieces to contribute to the exhibit. Participants are also welcomed to bring in their own vintage fabric.
