POSTPONED: Berkshires’ Academy for Advanced Musical Studies

Tue, Aug 16 7:30pm

Since 2020, The Foundry has curated young artists in a variety of genres including music, theater, dance, and comedy, offering them a professional platform and audience on Tuesday evenings in our black box theater.

The Foundry’s Emerging Artist Series is pleased to partner with the Berkshires’ Academy for Advanced Musical Studies for an evening of jazz, funk, groove, and world music featuring all-stars in the field alongside emerging talent, August 16, at 7:30PM!

The story of BAAMS is one of dreams, planning, dedication, and promise. After hosting three successful Berkshires’ Summer Jazz Day Camps in 2018, 2019, and 2020 —in which performing and recording artist and BAAMS’ Founder, Executive Director Richard Boulger (a native of Berkshire County) brought fellow top-tier musicians and music educators from the NYC area, members of the Berklee College of Music, The Juilliard School, The “Saturday Night Live” Band, and more) to teach for one week. After the three Berkshires-based Jazz Camps, it became clear there was a demand for more. Why not provide similar learning opportunities throughout the school year for Berkshire County and regional/area music students? Imagine the progress students could make with more regular training and practice!? Why not a music academy for students with the desire to learn such as those who’d attended the Jazz band day camp?

After much organization work, BAAMS soon became a non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a registered public charity, and received its 501(c)(3) tax-free status as of April 2020. After two years of online learning via BAAMS online learning portal ebaams, (as a result of the pandemic) BAAMS finally has opened its doors in North Adams, at Building 6, Heritage State Park, and is welcoming music students ages 12-18 for live and in-person learning!
